ALLELUIA!
Our Word of the Day is a word which we “fasted” from all throughout the Lenten Season, and which we finally proclaimed once again during the Easter Vigil / Easter Sunday Mass: ALLELUIA!
This word has its roots in the Hebrew expression, HALLELUJAH, which is actually a combination of two elements: HALLEL - a verb which means to praise, and JAH which is an“ abbreviation“ of the name of God - YAHWEH.
However, since the Jews are forbidden to say the name of God aloud, they replace Yahweh with ”Adonai“ which means ”Lord“. So when you put it together, HALLELUJAH translated, would be “Praise the Lord!” — which is found in 23 verses in the Book of Psalms (104–106, 111–117, 135, 145–150) — twice in Psalm 150:6.
Here’s an article to read further about the word Alleluia.
